Privacy, consent and what to expect

Appointment details and private scheduling messages are available in this department only to you and the assigned counsellor. Authorised technical personnel may access system data when necessary to operate or protect the service. We do not promise absolute confidentiality: information may need to be shared to address serious safety concerns or legal obligations, using only what is necessary.

Share only a broad support topic here. Do not upload medical records or put detailed personal histories in scheduling messages. Discuss sensitive matters directly with the counsellor. The counsellor will explain confidentiality, suitability for online support, referral options and any safeguarding arrangements before the session.

BBB sessions are configured without recording or automatic transcription. Use headphones and a private space, and do not make your own recordings. Internet services cannot guarantee complete privacy. If the connection fails, return to your appointment page and agree a new time or an alternative with the counsellor.

You may cancel a request or withdraw consent before a session. Ask the counsellor about access, correction or deletion of your information through your private appointment thread. Closed conversations can be deleted by the counsellor; backup copies may remain under SGI's backup policy. Group participants can see each other's displayed names and contributions, so group confidentiality cannot be guaranteed.

Students under 18 should contact Student Support to arrange an appropriate safeguarding and consent process before using online counselling.

For privacy, safeguarding or referral questions, contact Student Support or speak with the counsellor. Do not send detailed medical information through general support channels.
