STUDENT GUIDE: EMAIL SETUP ON ANDROID PHONE

This guide explains how to set up your official SGI student email on an Android smartphone using the

Gmail app.

Step 1: Open Gmail and Add an Account

• Open the Gmail app on your Android phone.

• Tap your profile picture (top right).

• Select Add another account.

• Choose Other (IMAP).

Step 2: Enter Your Email Address

• Enter your full SGI student email address (e.g. 26xxxx@sgi.ac).

• Tap Next.

Step 3: Incoming Server Settings (IMAP)

Enter the following details exactly:

• Username: Your full student email address

• Password: Your email password

• IMAP Server: mail.sgi.ac

• Port: 993

• Security Type: SSL/TLS

Step 4: Outgoing Server Settings (SMTP)

Enter the following details:

• Username: Your full student email address

• Password: Your email password

• SMTP Server: mail.sgi.ac

• Port: 465

• Security Type: SSL/TLS

Step 5: Account Name / Display Name

• Enter your full name as you would like it to appear on sent emails.

• Tap Next.

Step 6: Setup Complete

A confirmation message will appear indicating that your account has been set up. Your SGI student email

is now ready for use.

Important Notes for Students

• Always use your full student email address as the username.

• Ensure SSL/TLS is selected for both incoming and outgoing servers.

• Double-check server names and port numbers.

• If setup fails, confirm your password or contact SGI ICT Support.
