Summary

Economics becomes more useful when it is learned as a connected system of reasoning rather than as a collection of isolated definitions. This book therefore develops each major idea from intuition to model, from model to diagram or calculation, and from analysis to business or policy interpretation. The opening chapters establish scarcity, demand, supply and consumer choice. The middle chapters move into production, costs, markets, national income, development, money, banking, inflation and unemployment. The final chapters connect sectoral development to international trade, exchange rates, investment, aid, debt and structural adjustment. Throughout the book, the emphasis is on disciplined economic thinking: define concepts precisely, identify assumptions, trace cause-and-effect relationships, label diagrams correctly, show mathematical workings and interpret results. Practice questions and review activities are included not merely to test memory, but to strengthen application and judgment. The reader may use the book sequentially as a full course, selectively as a reference, or intensively as a revision text. In all three cases, the strongest learning comes from reproducing diagrams and calculations independently before consulting the explanatory framework that follows.
